Business Administration
Studying Business Administration prepares you to navigate the complex and ever-changing business world as a dynamic and decisive leader. At Mercyhurst, you’ll learn the fundamentals of economics, accounting, management, and marketing that can set you apart in today’s workforce.
After you learn the basics during your first year, choose a concentration that allows you to focus on the specialization that will hone your skills in your area of interest: Accounting, Management, Social Media Marketing, or Sport Management. No matter which you choose, you’ll graduate prepared with marketable skills to help you achieve an entry-level job in the business sector or continue on for a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college or university.
Accounting Concentration
At Mercyhurst, our mission is to help students on their path to success and to their desired career. Whether your goal is to become a CPA for a large firm or simply help people complete their taxes each spring, an Accounting concentration may be the perfect choice for you. The Accounting concentration offers a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the challenging field of accounting, while still educating on the basics of economics, management and marketing. The business division also recognizes the importance of basic communication and mathematics, and coursework in the program focuses on the development of these skills.
Our graduates have pursued careers in accounting data entry, payroll processing, office management accounts and as receivable/payable clerks and purchasing agents. Our faculty and staff will help you locate an internship related to your desired field to supplement your education with real-world experience in a professional setting.
Management Concentration
While some students dream of owning their own company, others are looking for the best way to kick-start their career in an ever-changing world. Whatever your goals may be, the Management concentration will help you achieve them by giving you the necessary skills and experiences. This concentration within the Business Administration program provides students with general training in the basic principles and techniques that are needed to secure an entry-level position in the business sector. To prepare students for whatever they may encounter in their job market, our faculty introduce the fundamentals of economics, accounting, management, and marketing, and some coursework in human resources.
Our graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in administration, marketing, manufacturing and sales, or for continuing education. Graduates from our Management program have become sales associates, accounting assistants, bookkeepers, human resources assistants, customer service specialists, bank clerks, administrative assistants, and office managers.
Sport Management Concentration
If you've always been fascinated with the world of sports, whether it's the game day production of a professional team or the smooth management of local pick-up leagues, a degree in Sport Management from Mercyhurst may be the path for you. To fully prepare students for entry-level positions in the sports industry, the Sport Management concentration offers a sequence of courses including accounting, economics, management, marketing, and topics in professional, collegiate, and recreational athletics.
