Career Development Director Heather Balas earns AAEE Star Award
Heather Balas, director of career & professional development at Mercyhurst, has received the Star Award from the American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE).
The Star Award recognizes an individual or group that provides exemplary service to the organization. Balas was honored for her work with AAEE’s Teacher Scholarship Committee.
“It is always inspiring to connect with educators throughout the country through AAEE,” Balas said. “Being able to lead their scholarship committee was a joy and privilege. I am truly honored to receive recognition for my work with AAEE and look forward to continuing to collaborate with their members and board.”
Founded in 1934, the AAEE provides resources and networking opportunities to connect higher education and school systems, both nationally and internationally. Members include professionals from colleges, universities, school systems, and non-profit and for-profit organizations.
Balas earned her bachelor’s degree in communication and business communication from Thiel College in 2001 and her master’s in student personnel from Slippery Rock University in 2003. She has worked in several roles in higher education including residential education, student activities & Greek life, and the First Year Experience before settling in career development.
Balas has held her current position at Mercyhurst since 2018.
