Saint John’s, Mercyhurst partner for accelerated theology master’s program

Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota, and Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, announce the signing of a 4+1 agreement for Mercyhurst students to earn a Master of Arts in Theology degree at an accelerated pace.
The accelerated program is open to Mercyhurst students of any major and allows them to access coursework in Theology at Saint John’s while earning their baccalaureate degree. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Mercyhurst, students will enter Saint John’s, live on-campus, and earn their master’s degree in one year with a full-tuition academic scholarship, totaling approximately $17,000.
“Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary is among the very best schools for student success in financial aid, professional and doctoral placements, timely graduation, and the overall theological and pastoral formation of students,” said Saint John’s Dean Shawn Colberg. “We are thrilled to be in partnership with Mercyhurst University, which shares priorities like these. Together, we can offer Mercyhurst students access to superb theological education that expands their worldview and builds their resumes for professional success.”
Mercyhurst shares the enthusiasm for this partnership said Dr. Richard McCarty, the university’s vice president for academic affairs. “We’re proud to partner with such a distinguished graduate school as Saint John’s,” he said. “They offer graduate theological education that promotes critical and contextual thinking, meaningful dialogue in society, and ethical leadership in service of the common good.”
Though all students at Mercyhurst are welcome to pursue this opportunity, McCarty said the university’s robust academic programs in Religious Studies, Catholic Studies, and Philosophy are organic pathways to the Master of Arts in Theology degree at Saint John’s.
