Mercyhurst announces Cleveland artist David King as juror for 2025 Patricia S. Yahn Student Juried Art Show

The Cummings Gallery at Mercyhurst University is excited to announce that Cleveland-based artist David King will be the juror for the 2025 Patricia S. Yahn ’50 Juried Student Art Show.
 
The popular exhibit will be open for viewing Feb. 3-28, with a closing reception on Feb. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. King is slated to speak at 6 p.m. and to announce the student awards, according to Cummings Gallery Director Matthew Coté.
 
A Best in Show Award recipient at the 2019 Erie Art Museum’s Spring Show, King is known for incorporating photographic imagery into his painting work, blending realism with dream-like coloring, textures, and blending.
 
He has received numerous accolades as his work continues to be exhibited in many juried shows. Among them are the Erie Art Museum, “Full Fathom Five” at Progressive Insurance, CAN Triennial 2019 & 2022, May Show at LCC, NEO Show-Cleveland Creates, Utah Arts Alliance, and the Faculty Show at Case Western Reserve University. His work is in many collections, including Progressive Insurance, Aetna Insurance, Erie Insurance, the Ohio State University, State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, Ohio Education Association, Parkersburg Art Museum, and the Cleveland Administration Building. King is represented by the Hedge Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio.
 
King was born in Stow, Ohio, and received his MFA in painting from Kent State University. A high school teacher for 30 years, King currently teaches drawing, painting, and printmaking at Case Western Reserve University.
 
Over the years, he has curated and juried numerous exhibitions. He is a founding board member of ARTFUL Cleveland, a grassroots organization providing affordable studio spaces to eastside Cleveland artists. He also worked in Colorado Springs as the on-site coordinator for gifted high school students with the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation.
