Carolyn Borland is an Erie native who graduated magna cum laude with a BM in Music Education from Mercyhurst University in 2002. She has played bassoon with Presque Isle Pro Musica, Erie Chamber Orchestra, Erie Opera Theatre, Mercyhurst University Wind Ensemble, Mercyhurst University Civic Orchestra, and is a founding member of the reed trio “Reed ‘Em and Weep.” Carolyn also recently began the position of woodwind coach and conductor of the Chamber Orchestra for The Erie Jr. Philharmonic.
In addition to playing bassoon, Carolyn is an instrumental music teacher at Westlake Middle School in Millcreek Township. She teaches grades six through eight in band, orchestra, and general music. Ms. Borland has been a member of Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, Millcreek Education Association, National Association, and American Federation of Musicians since 2002. Her teaching accolades include PMEA’s Citation of Excellence Award in 2013, and the Golden Apple Award in 2016.
