MUS 110: Introduction to Music Education
Brandon Maxwell is currently the K-5 General Music, Band, Orchestra, and Chorus teacher at Belle Valley Elementary School, Percussion Director and Assistant Marching Band Director for McDowell High School Marching Band, and an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA.
Prior to teaching, Brandon’s performance experience included time in WGI, DCI, and DCA finalist groups such as: Rhythm X Indoor Percussion Ensemble, Project Percussion, Capital Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, Empire Statesmen Drum & Bugle Corps, Lake Erie Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, and Spirit Performance Youth Ensemble. As a member of these groups, he has performed as a part of clinics in the United States, Canada, England, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In addition to the marching percussion activity, Brandon has performed as a percussionist for many local orchestras and band ensembles. He is currently performing as the drummer for popular local country band, Small Town Revolution.
Outside of his day job teaching, Brandon has maintained a private percussion studio for the last 20 years, has taught and arranged for numerous championship marching bands, was a quad tech and Battery Caption Head for the Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and is one of the founders of multiple indoor percussion ensembles in the Erie area. Over the years, he has consulted with groups in Pennsylvania, New York, Utah, Florida, and Canada. Most recently, Brandon has found a passion for providing meaningful feedback to competitive music ensembles adjudicating in Pennsylvania, Utah, and New York.
