ELIES Lecture for Hispanic Heritage Month: "Imagine More”

Thursday, October 5, 2023 • 7:00 pm
Mercy Heritage Hall

Hispanic Heritage month is Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Mercyhurst University's Evelyn Lincoln Institute for Ethics and Society (ELIES) will celebrate this month with a special lecture by Dr. Juan Hernández Jr. Dr. Hernández will deliver the lecture “Imagine More” on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. in Mercy Heritage Hall.

His lecture will recount the story of how a visit by Hispanic pastors to Bethel University in 2015 led to the initiation of biblical seminars on campus and eventually the creation of fully accredited university level courses taught in Spanish (starting in 2019). The courses have brought together both traditional college students and adult learners in the classroom, creating a mutually enriching academic and cross-cultural learning environment. The lecture will be an opportunity to reimagine the possibilities for bringing Latin American communities and Academia together.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Verna Marina Ehret at vehret@mercyhurst.edu.
