May 2019 diplomas have arrived and are available for pick up in the Academic Success Center from Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Official transcripts can be requested by filling out this form. Any unclaimed diplomas will be mailed to the address on file during the week of July 29. 

Graduation Day

1:00 p.m. - Commencement Mass* in Saint Mary’s Chapel
*All denominations are invited to attend Mass where a special blessing will be bestowed on all graduates.
2:00 p.m. - Arrival and robing for Graduates in Miller 108, Miller 112, & Miller 116. Please arrive no later than 2 p.m.
2:00 p.m. - Faculty line up in Executive Board Room. Please arrive no later than 2:20 p.m.
2:00 p.m. - Doors to Liguori Fieldhouse open- tickets required for entry
2:55 p.m. - Academic Procession Begins
3:00 p.m. - Commencement in Liguori Fieldhouse

Photos

Lifetouch true photographer will take your picture as you exit the stage with your diploma.

Everyone will be photographed. Your photos will be available online 10 days after graduation. Complimentary proofs will be mailed to graduates. You are under no obligation to purchase these photos; however, the Lifetouch photographer will be given access to the floor to capture each graduate for the families.

Graduation Attire

Graduates can make sure they look their best at graduation (and in the photos and videos of the event) by following these guidelines.

Women

  • Wear a dress, skirt, or pants with a pocket
  • Consider plain black flats or low heels like those you’d wear to a business interview. You will be walking a lot, including processing across the brick and pavement on campus, and they'll be easier on your feet than higher heels
  • Keep your jewelry simple
  • Do not wear a suit jacket under academic attire
  • Do not wear corsage on your robe

Men

  • Wear dark dress pants (black, gray or navy)
  • Solid-colored long-sleeve shirt
  • Dark dress shoes and dark socks
  • Tie
  • Do not wear a suit coat under academic attire

Graduation Awards and Honors

Individual Program Awards

These awards are presented to a student in each of the two-year associate degree programs at MNE. Selections are based on overall achievement, judged on scholarship, and for the potential they demonstrate as future leaders of their professions.

The Letoinne Barnett Memorial Award 

The Letoinne Barnett Memorial Award is given to a graduate of the Booker T. Washington campus who most exemplifies the “Carpe Diem Spirit” exhibited by Letoinne. He worked diligently to make a difference in his life and the lives of others through the educational opportunities at the Booker T. Washington Campus. The recipient of this award has attained a minimum 3.0 GPA while balancing the many needs of family, school, and work. In addition, the recipient possesses a strong sense of self, family, and community.

Robert S. Miller Award

This award is the highest award presented by Mercyhurst North East to an adult student. It is given in recognition of the dedication, perseverance, and sacrifice necessary to achieve outstanding academic performance while managing responsibilities to family, work, and the community. The recipient exemplifies to traditional-aged students that learning is a lifelong process. This award is named for Robert S. Miller, friend and supporter of Mercyhurst North East.

Redemptorist Fathers Award

This award is given to the graduate who has given unselfishly of his/her time, energy, talent, and loyalty to Mercyhurst North East. The recipient of this award, involved in numerous activities of the college, has shown that he/she possesses a high degree of leadership skills.

The Sister Catherine McAuley Award

This award is the highest academic honor given by the University. It is presented in recognition of an associate degree candidate who has attained the highest Grade Point Average in the graduating class. All courses must be taken at Mercyhurst University or MNE.

Medal of Honor

This prestigious honor is the highest award presented by Mercyhurst North East to the graduating student who has had the most positive impact on the life of our campus community. The recipient of this award has exhibited outstanding scholarship achievement, personal integrity, and leadership skills.

Graduation Honors

Graduation honors are given to students whose exceptional academic, service and leadership performances are deemed worthy of recognition.

Blue & Green Honor Cords

The cords are presented to students who have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.7 or higher.  These students are presented these cords before graduation and are announced at the ceremony as “graduation with distinction”.

Red, White, & Blue Cords 

These cords are presented to students who are members of our Armed services before graduation.

Black & Platinum Cords 

These cords are presented before graduation to students inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Program Award Pins 

These pins are presented to individual program award winners at the Awards Dinner.  The pin should be worn on the graduation gown lapel.

Monday, May 6, 2019

Toast to Graduation Week
12:00 p.m.-2 p.m., Miller Hall Front Lawn

Join fellow graduates for a free afternoon of fun-filled activities and festive foods saluting the arrival of graduation.  There will be lawn games to play, raffle baskets to win, gifts to be received, and plenty of food to enjoy.  Caps, gowns, and tickets will also be available for pick-up.  Receive a special gift when you meet with the Alumni Association representatives.  RSVP required. Cost is $15 for faculty and staff.

Tuesday-Thursday, May 7-9, 2019

Cap, Gown, and Ticket Pick-Up
10 a.m.-5 p.m., MNE Bookstore
Beginning on Tuesday morning, all graduates may pick up their caps/gowns and ceremony tickets from the MNE bookstore.  The Department of Student Life will provide a commemorative gift to each graduate at pick up.

Awards Dinner*
6:30 p.m. - cash bar, 7 p.m. - dinner, Peek ‘n Peak
Awards will be presented for the top award winners, department award winners, and top male and female student-athletes. You must RSVP to Amy Erickson (aerickson@mercyhurst.edu) by April 25 and have payment in full by April 29.  The award winner and two guests may attend the dinner for free.  Cost is $30 per person and per additional student guest.  Please be aware the dining room is not handicap accessible.

A commemorative bottle of wine with a personalized 2019 Graduation label will be for sale at Mazza Winery in North East beginning May 8, 2019.

Graduation FAQs

When is the graduation?

The commencement will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 3 p.m., at Liguori Fieldhouse.

Are tickets required for graduation?

Yes. Commencement tickets will be included with your cap/gown pick up. Each graduate participating in the ceremony will receive four (4) tickets.  Each attendee must have a ticket for entry. 

Are additional tickets available for graduation?

Additional tickets are not guaranteed, but can be requested here.  Graduating students are able to request up to two (2) additional tickets.  Requests will be filled in the order in which they are received and will be accepted until April 26.  Any additional tickets allotted will be included in the cap & gown package. 

When can I pick-up my cap and gown? 

Caps and gowns will be in the MNE bookstore for pick up Tuesday, May 7 - Thursday, May 9, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.  Place gown on a hanger immediately; if after several days there are still wrinkles, press it with a cool iron.

What about parking?

Parking is available in all campus lots. Handicap parking is available.

Is handicap seating available?

Handicap seating is available for families attending commencement at Liguori Fieldhouse. Once inside someone will direct you to the handicapped seating area. Handicap parking is available. If your guest(s) need handicap seating, please contact Courtney Phelps (crenner@mercyhurst.edu) ASAP.

What time do the doors open for guests to be seated?

Doors will open at 2:00 p.m.

What time do the graduates arrive for line-up?

The graduates must arrive no later than 2 p.m. for line-up and assistance with academic attire.

Will I receive my degree certificate on graduation day?

Degree certificates will be available during the summer.
