Dr. Leanne Roberts has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Mercyhurst University. Her appointment takes effect at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
Since coming to Mercyhurst in 2001, Roberts has been an exceptional educator with wide-ranging expertise in academic leadership. She has served on college-wide committees, including multiple terms on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee. She was awarded the university’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2014, the same year she was promoted to full professor.
Since 2009, she has served as a department chair, associate dean, and most recently as Dean of the Hafenmaier College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, where she leads the ambitious undertaking of blending the liberal arts with professional disciplines. In these roles, Roberts has been noted for her intellectual energy, creativity and innovative mindset.
She has worked to secure external funding through multiple large grants and contracts to enhance the university’s strategic initiatives, the educational experience for Mercyhurst students, and to positively affect the Erie region, most notably through the nationally recognized Carpe Diem Academy, a K-2 extended learning day program for inner-city children.
Roberts received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Edinboro University and her doctorate in Education from the University of Akron. Prior to coming to Mercyhurst, she worked in public and corporate education, consulting with clients that included Lucent Technologies, Motorola, Goodyear, Quest Diagnostics and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
