Roche Guest Artist Series: Akropolis Reed Quintet
Monday October 08, 2018 - 8:00 pm
Walker Recital Hall
The Roche Guest Artist Series at Mercyhurst University presents the 7-time national prize-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet. Witness their stunning virtuosity up close and personal in the intimate Walker Recital Hall at Mercyhurst on Monday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. The Akropolis Reed Quintet presents "Under the Influence," a program all about music's ability to absorb and transmit images, emotions, and experiences. Each piece of music is inspired by an image or experience, including frozen lakes, rocking boats, exotic Dr. Seuss-inspired objects, and more. Featuring an epic arrangement of George Gershwin's An American in Paris, the program also includes Marc Mellits' Splinter as well as works by Rob Deemer, Natalie Draper, and Becky Turro, each commissioned by Akropolis, whose music the San Francisco Chronicle dubs, "Pure Gold." The recital is free and open to the public through the generosity of the Terry and Margaret M. Roche Family. For information, contact Victoria McIlvain at 814-824-2394.
