The Heart’s Bright and Dark Light
Cummings Gallery presents new works by Minnesota painter Jil Evans that examine the role that light plays, both in art and in one’s personal convictions. After observing historical paintings in museum collections, the artist reflects, sketches, and translates her response into a series of vibrant, large-scale, abstract oil paintings. The exhibit, on display Jan. 13-Feb. 9, focuses on five works from the Minneapolis Institute of Art and documents Evans’ creative process by presenting sketches and text with the completed work. A public reception will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery.
Cummings Gallery, in the lobby of the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center, is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m., closed Sunday. The gallery will be closed Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Day. For more information, contact gallery director Jessica Stadtmueller at firstname.lastname@example.org or 814-824-2092.
