Guest Artist Chat: Dancer Ask la Cour

Tuesday April 10, 2018 - 7:00 pm
Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center
Ask la Cour, a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, and his wife, Kristen Kurie, a 2003 Mercyhurst dance alum who’s now a physical therapist, are in residence today through Wednesday with the Mercyhurst Dance Department. Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, la Cour joined the Royal Danish Ballet at age 16 and became proficient in the Bournonville technique. Moving to the New York City Ballet in 2002, he learned the Balanchine repertoire. The public is invited to an artist chat with la Cour on Tuesday. He’ll discuss “Balancing the Traditional with the Contemporary Approach: Bournonville and Balanchine Techniques” at 7 p.m. in the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center. After dance injuries caused Kurie to drop her pursuit of a professional ballet career, she earned her doctorate in physical therapy from New York Medical College. She is employed at Westside Dance Physical Therapy in Manhattan, which caters to the rehabilitation needs of the local community as well as professional and pre-professional performing artists.  For information, call 814-824-2256.
