WELCOME, NEW STUDENTS

Summer Orientations

The Campus Involvement Center and the Office of Academic Support work in conjunction to host four Summer Orientation days each summer. The purpose of Summer Orientation is to ensure that new students have a successful transition and integration into Mercyhurst University. The program promotes discussion among new and current students, parents/guardians, as well as faculty, staff and administrators on the expectations and perceptions of college life and the campus community. 2020 Orientations will be held on Friday, June 19, Monday, June 22, and Friday, August 7. International students will be invited to attend on Thursday, August 20, 2020.

By attending Summer Orientation students:

  • Have an effective and comprehensive academic advising session followed by the completion of a class schedule in their chosen major
  • Gain more knowledge of the academic experience, student support services and student life
  • Understand the necessity of taking ownership and academic responsibility in their educational process
  • Have the opportunity to make connections with other students
  • Gain a better understanding of the personal and financial responsibilities of attending college
  • Begin to experience and embrace Mercyhurst's traditions, mission and core values

Once a student is accepted to Mercyhurst University, they will be sent login and password information for the Mercyhurst hub where they will register for a Summer Orientation date and complete other pertinent information prior to attending Summer Orientation.

Welcome Week

At the start of every year, a fun and informative Welcome Week gives new students the chance to say their last goodbyes to parents and learn what the University, the campus and everything in their new Mercyhurst life is all about. Once students have moved into their residence halls, they can enjoy all of the Welcome Week fun.

Events start on Friday, August 21—the first day that students can move into their new residence halls. Daytime sessions are required for all new students, as the sessions assist new students as they transition to University life.  Evening activities range from the huge “Welcome Back Kick Off Party” and Casino Night.  New students will also complete a Service Project with their peers, iMU facilitator and Laker Leader.  Welcome Week closes with President Victor’s Academic Convocation and meetings by major. Take part in the fun and supportive activities, services and programs to find your place, make friends, and have some Mercyhurst Spirit!

A Welcome Week guide will be posted in July 2020.

Move-In Day 2020

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 dozens of student volunteers, the Residence Life staff, and the campus community will make the move-in process inceredibly smooth for resident students. All families should plan to depart by 4pm, when Welcome Week kick off begins.
