CONGRATULATIONS, NEW LAKER!
We are pleased to be able to offer you admission to Mercyhurst University, and we hope you are excited about the prospect of joining our vibrant Laker community. Our campus is enriched by the diversity of identity, thought, expression, and background of our students. As you add your own unique touch to the Mercyhurst community, your time here will help you to grow in scholarship and leadership in your chosen field.
You no doubt have many questions about the next steps and what you need to do to officially enroll at Mercyhurst. Please refer to the content on this webpage and the checklist on your Admissions Portal for more details. You can also contact the Mercyhurst Office of International Student Services—we would be glad to answer your questions or assist you at any time!
You're In! What's Next?
Now that you have been admitted to Mercyhurst University, please complete these steps as soon as possible to reserve your place and officially join the Mercyhurst community.
To secure a place in Mercyhurst’s incoming class, all admitted students must submit a Statement of Intent form and nonrefundable $250 deposit. (The deposit will be credited to your student account.)
After you confirm your enrollment, we will be in touch with directions to complete the following:
Work with our International Student Office to obtain the appropriate immigration paperwork and complete a successful visa interview at your local U.S. embassy or consulate.
Your Mercyhurst network username, email address and password will be mailed to you beginning in March. Follow the instructions to begin using your Mercyhurst email account and accessing the campus portal and orientation website.
All students who confirm by May 1 are guaranteed on-campus housing. Housing contracts are distributed in the order students confirm. Students are assigned to housing in the order contracts are returned, which means the sooner you confirm your enrollment, the better chance you have of securing your first-choice residence hall.
Multiple on-campus orientation sessions will be offered throughout the summer; for the convenience of students traveling long distance to campus, one session will take place immediately before the start of the fall semester. We’ll be in touch with details on how to sign up for an orientation session.
Although a visit to campus is not required, we would be happy to welcome you here and show you around anytime!

Academic Exploration, Intellectual Growth
All of Mercyhurst University’s majors are divided among four academic colleges, each overseen by a full-time administrative dean. The four colleges are:
Beyond the Classroom
What happens in class is only the beginning of your college experience. Mercyhurst provides the resources to support your academic and creative exploration of the world.
A focal point of campus activity, the Campus Involvement Center in the Sister Carolyn Herrmann Student Union is available for use by all members of the campus community. The staff in the CIC work closely with Mercyhurst Student Government, the Student Activities Council, and other student leaders to plan on- and off-campus social and cultural events. Coffee houses, concerts, comedians, formals, movies and speakers are regular features. And, with more than 80 clubs and organizations ranging from academic to social to recreational, there’s something for every interest.
The Marion Shane Multicultural Center (MSMC) is a comprehensive center that assists with the educational, cultural, social and personal needs of all students, with special emphasis on ethnicity, gender and minority issues. The MSMC hosts numerous events throughout the year to engage students from different cultures and backgrounds.
Getting sick when you’re away at college doesn’t have to be a frightening experience. The Cohen Student Health Center is staffed by doctors and registered nurses and provides primary care for ordinary illnesses and emergencies. The psychologists, counselors and social workers at the Counseling Center strive to respond compassionately and professionally to the psychological, relational, emotional and spiritual issues of university students. Health Center and Counseling services are available free of charge to all registered students.
The Department of Police and Safety is committed to providing a safe living and learning environment for the Mercyhurst community. This round-the-clock office provides services including Blue Light Safety and Escort systems, campus patrols, parking passes and other vehicle assistance, text alert systems, emergency response, fingerprinting and more.
The Office of Academic Support and Learning Differences is the go-to place for current students at Mercyhurst University. Every student is assigned a faculty advisor and an academic counselor based on the student’s major. Academic counselors work individually with students on a variety of academic and personal issues and are able to handle most concerns that students encounter. It is the goal of this office to foster satisfying experiences that lead to student success and persistence toward degree completion. Services include:
- The Writing Center assists students at any stage in the writing process, from brainstorming to final proofreading. Students may schedule appointments with writing consultants at any time. There is no charge for this assistance.
- Paid peer tutors in the Tutoring Center provide one-on-one or group tutoring for most classes. Students may receive up to three hours of tutoring per week, per course. Tutors are accomplished students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the courses they are eligible to tutor. Students are eligible to become peer tutors after one year of study at Mercyhurst. There is no charge for tutoring.
- The Career Development Center (CDC) provides information regarding career counseling, internships, cover letter and resume construction, job searches and interviews, and graduate school guidance. The CDC also hosts an annual career fair, which attracts more than 80 businesses and organizations looking for new employees.
